If everyone likes you, you must be doing something wrong. Or so the saying goes.
I posted this on my Facebook Fan Page recently:
Boy oh boy. What a polarizing response. I mean the haters came outta the woodwork on this one.
After a handful of hater comments and hater messages I decided to make a video response:
It’s all in fun. It was for a good laugh. And for the most part, everyone got it. But some didn’t. [oopsies]
According to many sources, you’re not doing your job if everyone agrees or if everyone likes you. The greatest managers won’t please everyone.
I remember reading somewhere.. something about pleasing everyone means you’re not making a stance, but simply being a pushover. That you have to pick a side eventually. Walking down the middle of the road will eventually get you hit.
Sure, we’re talking social media habits and hilarity.. but you get my point.
Apparently I’m doing something right.
I remember working in a closed-unit ICU. The unit was closed for a certain number of hours each day.
It was the designated time for ‘Patient Recovery’…
And of course it was a chance for the nursing staff to play catch up from all the things we couldn’t finish because families were at the bedside.
Don’t get me wrong. Having families at the bedside is a key ingredient to a patient’s recovery from an illness. The love and emotional support the patient receives is equally as important as the medication and interventions they are receiving from the health care team.
But too much of a good thing…
Sometimes families can be a bit too much. They can be a bit overbearing. They can be a bit suffocating. And quite honestly can over stress the patient.
What starts out as good-intended love and support can turn into energy draining and stress-induced social activity. Instead of helping them work hard to get better, the patient gets over worked, over stressed and anxious. Their anxiety starts a stress-induced chain of events that actually can make a patient worse. Something that actually can prolong their length of stay and overall time of recovery.
When a nurse tells a family to step away, it’s done out of advocacy for our patient.
The patient needs to rest just as much as they need to participate in their care.
Recovering from any illness in the ICU can be exhaustive.
Sometimes a patient just needs left alone….
So. Things are coming together nicely. This lil’ Podcast of ours is starting to take a life of its own.
We’re 13 episodes deep now. We’re on iTunes. We’re on Stitcher. We publish to SoundCloud and Spreaker. We have MERCHANDISE!
Oh…. and we now have business cards:
Did I mention shiz jus’ got realz?
Millennials, or those born from 1982 through 2000, now make up more than a quarter of the U.S. population, exceeding Baby Boomers (1946-1964) for the first time.
-from U.S Census Bureau
This fun fact is an eye-opener in regards to population behavior and the paradigm shift in social habits, the market and of course just good ole’ fashion relationships. I mean you have noticed there are some changes goin’ on with how we as humans interact with each other haven’t you?
Things that make you go hmmm.

Ever have an idea in your head that you just can’t let go of? Just won’t leave your brain. Keeps knocking on your subconscious. Keeps buzzing around your skull like that mosquito in the bedroom.
I’m having one of those ideas. It’s an idea I’ve had for a while. An idea that still seems a bit crazy to me, but I just can’t let go of it.
Stay tuned folks. As if I don’t already have enough on my plate. I think I might be trying something new. (Is that vague enough for ya… don’t ya hate those type of posts?)
Not unless someone can tell me how to get rid of this damn mosquito in my head?

Who doesn’t like Chunk?
The movie “The Goonies” is still one of my all time favorites.
And now back to your regularly schedule day. Sorry, I needed the laugh.

National Doughnut Day : June 5th
National Running Day : June 3rd
Anyone else find this a little entertaining?
Maybe they should switch dates? This way you can go ‘burn’ off those doughnuts you ate two days prior. Heh heh
