Forward thinking health care professionals??

Sometimes it’s very hard to teach an old dog a new trick.

Today I was told by a physician that NPs are simply hired to do all the “scut-work” that physicians don’t want or like to do. In the physician’s words, “You guys do all the crap/garbage stuff we don’t like or have time for. Is that what you really want to do?”

  1. This guy sounds like some of the docs i hate to deal with. If they have an NP on their team who doesn’t mind speaking to patients, explaining things and showing general human decency, the ‘crap’ i think this guy is referring to, then it makes a good partnership. If the doc is competent in some other aspect of care.

  2. Please!!!! Try not to refer to yourself as a “Mid Level Provider” as this perpetuates the mistaken idea that we are substandard medical providers. I would love to know the age of the physicians that still have those opinions? Most doctors that are younger are not misguided by what we do, in fact, most are really receptive.

    1. I’m still learning. The physician in question was not that ‘old’ unfortunately. What is the ideal term that you use instead of mid-level provider?

      Thanks for commenting!!
