You aren’t expected to know everything. So quit beating yourself up for forgetting something from nursing 101. Quit being so mad or disappointed in yourself when you slip-up and make a mistake, no matter how simple or complex it may be.
Nope. You aren’t expected to know everything.
In fact you are NEVER expected to know everything. You ARE however expected to acquire the tools, the forward thinking and the instinct to find out who does.
Meaning, when you don’t have the answer to the question, or don’t have the set of skills to accomplish the task, you should be able to determine and or find someone or something that can or does.
There are two things you learn as new nurse freshly off of orientation:
1st – Do no harm. At the end of your orientation you will be safer. You will acquire the skills and knowledge to SAFELY take care of your patient.
2nd – You will not know the answer to everything, but you will know where to find the answer.
